November is also GRATITUDE MONTH. The best way to be happy is to be grateful and gratitude is an action word. We find the best way to feel good is to give to others who are not as fortunate. It is truly a shame that families still go hungry.
My husband volunteers at Thanksgiving time for our neighbors in Bridgeport who are struggling with poverty, homelessness and addiction. They are deeply grateful for the love and encouragement that they receive from Bill and the many volunteers that help each year. Last year’s drive was a big success, the generous funds received from over 100 families and businesses enables The Bridgeport Rescue Mission to purchase, collect and distribute over 1,200 turkeys and well over 1,000 beautiful new winter coats. The Bridgeport Rescue Mission serves our neighbors who are struggling with poverty and addiction. The BRM family helps anyone who is currently poor, addicted, abused, abandoned and mentally ill to experience love, hope and healing. BRM not only cares for the immediate physical needs of the homeless, it helps them to overcome the challenges that led to their plight so they can learn to stand on their own again, as productive contributing members of our community. Each year, BRM provides hundreds of thousands of free meals to the homeless and working poor in Bridgeport and South Norwalk, over 30,000 nights of safe shelter, and residential recovery programs for men, women and children. One of the great opportunities with this drive is to participate personally in the experience. Hundreds of volunteers help by forming Turkey Teams and donating turkeys and fixings for more than 4000 families as well as over 15,000 coats to warm weary bodies. Be part of The Great ThanksGiving Project and provide families in need with a Thanksgiving they will never forget!
You can help by organizing a drive for turkeys or coats…or both!
